“Kiss-cut” comes from the idea of the blade just “kissing” the backing paper. The sticker itself is cut through, while the backing stays intact — unlike die-cut stickers, where both the sticker and backing are cut all the way through.
Die-cut stickers are cut all the way through the vinyl and backing, so they follow the exact shape of your design. Kiss-cut stickers are only cut through the sticker layer, leaving the backing intact for easier peeling and handling.
For best results, save your file with two cut-line layers: one for the inner kiss-cut, and one for the outer die-cut that goes all the way through. Lock the layer that represents the final cut. If you’re not working in a design program with layers, you can simply upload your full design and tell us which part should be kiss-cut — we’ll take care of the rest.
